The head of the Catholic Church in Ireland is to meet the Pope to discuss a report into child abuse by religious orders in the Republic.
Thousands of children were abused in institutions, according to the Ryan report which was published in May.
Cardinal Sean Brady and the Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin are to meet Benedict XVI in Rome on Friday.
Although the findings will not be used for criminal charges, pressure has been growing for suspected abusers to be prosecuted and for more financial compensation to be offered to victims of abuse.
