The teen was injured during the incident at a house in the Woodford area of Clondalkin shortly after 10pm on Tuesday.

He was taken to Tallaght Hospital where he died from his injuries.

It is understood the firearm was a legally-owned rifle.

A post-mortem examination is to be carried out into what Garda officers are treating as a tragic incident.

all those poor families who have lost children this past week, north and south of the border, have my deepest sympathy. It is a horrible thing to see a young life come to a tragic end. May they all rest in peace.
