The collision happened at Railway Street in the city.

The boys, believed to be six-year-old twins, were taken to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.

The child, who died on Friday evening, had been in a critical condition since the crash, while his brother was in a stable condition.

DUP Councillor Scott Carson has expressed his shock at the news.

"Any death in such circumstances is difficult to come to terms with, however it is even more tragic when the victim is a young child," he said.

"I would like to express my condolences to the family."

There are no further details.
