A planning application to expand Bombardier Aerospace's Belfast operation has taken a major step forward.

Planners had recommended to Belfast City Council that it should approve a proposal for a new 700,000 square feet factory at its Airport Road West site.

The move will accommodate the processes involved in manufacturing the wings for the new C-Series commercial aircraft.

Environment Minister Sammy Wilson has said the decision will be welcome news for the company's 5,000 employees.

"The new factory building forms part of a total investment of £520m which represents the largest inward investment in Northern Irelands history", Mr Wilson added.
