Gardai investigating dissident republican activity have arrested two men after pipe bomb parts were discovered in a house in Co Kildare.

Special Detective Unit officers searched a property in the Newbridge area on Thursday night.

They said: "During the course of the search, Gardai located a number of items associated with the manufacture of pipe bombs."

Two men aged 39 and 45 were detained under the provisions of Section 30 Offences of the State Act as amended. One is being held in Naas, the other in Newbridge.

It comes as part of ongoing investigations into dissident activity in the Republic of Ireland.

I live in Newbridge and I have to say this is extremely rare in this part of the country. Having said that, there is 40,000 people living between Newbridge and Naas.
