The bodies of the two males were located on an island on Lough Sheelin at around 4.30pm on Monday and have not been identified as yet.

The area has been sealed off for technical examination and the office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

Eoin O'Connor, 32, and 33-year-old Anthony Keegan from Dublin disappeared after going to meet people in Co Cavan in April.

The men, who were reported missing by their families, are understood the men have links to a criminal gang.

A major Garda operation was launched in an effort to locate the men after an anonymous tip-off claimed that two bodies had been dumped in the Ballyjamesduff area. The lough where the bodies were found is just over 10 miles away from the Co Cavan town.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information particularly those from the boating community on Lough Sheelin or anyone who may have been on the Lough between 22 April to 26 May to contact them.
