A man from Belfast has died a week after being shot in north Dublin.

Declan Smith, 32, was attacked by a lone gunman at Hollywell Avenue in Donaghmede on the morning of last Friday.

Police in the Republic of Ireland said: "A post mortem examination is expected to take place later today and will be carried out by the State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy.

"The Garda investigation into the incident is ongoing."

Mr Smith was shot in the head while leaving his child to a crèche in north Dublin last week. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died in Beaumont hospital overnight.

Gardaí have been investigating a possible dissident republican link to the gun attack.
