Police and the army bomb squad were called to Moyard Parade, off the Springfield Road, on Tuesday afternoon following reports of a suspicious object.

A number of homes were evacuated while examinations took place at the scene.

The alert ended some time later when the object was found to be a hoax. It has been taken away for further testing.

All families have now been allowed to return home and all cordons on roads have been lifted.

Police have asked anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area, or who may have more information on this incident, to contact them immediately.
