The 34-year-old victim was attacked in the early hours of Monday morning.

The serious assault was reported shortly before 2.40am - no other details were released by police.

However, it is understood that he was injured after an altercation outside a bar in the village during which he hit his head on the ground.

Four roads were closed for hours as police investigated the assault which happened on Main Street, close to its junction with the Loughill Road and Drumadoon Road.

A 26-year-old man, arrested in Coleraine on Monday, was charged with attempted murder on Tuesday morning. He was due before Ballymena Magistrates' Court the same day.
