The Mayor of Antrim said there is an "obvious problem" in Greystone estate, after houses were damaged in two separate attacks in less than a week.

An empty house in Donore Crescent was deliberately set alight during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police say nearby residents were evacuated while Fire and Rescue crews tackled the well developed blaze at the end-terrace property.

Three fire engines and crews brought the fire under control shortly after 5am.

Less than a week ago, three homes in the same estate were damaged or set on fire by a gang of armed youths.

Antrim Mayor Roy Thompson said: "It's obvious there's a problem in this particular estate.

"We will be asking police to put additional resources, I understand they have already done so, into this estate.

"I ask all those involved in such activities to desist forthwith," he added.
