Arrests in £2m VAT fraud inquiry

Authorities investigating a suspected £2m VAT fraud linked to the transport industry have arrested two men.

It follows searches in Co Down and Co Tyrone on Tuesday morning.
Cash and business records related to the fraud were seized.
The two men were questioned by HM Revenue and Customs and later released on bail.
John Whiting of HMRC said: "HMRC takes tax fraud extremely seriously.
"Anyone deliberately choosing to evade the taxes they owe should expect not only a heavy fine, but possibly a criminal prosecution as well. Anyone with information about people who may be involved in tax fraud can contact the Tax Evasion Hotline on 0800 788 887."
