A young man who was found seriously injured outside a pub in north Dublin has died in hospital.

The man, 21, was found on Fassaugh Avenue in Cabra on Tuesday at 7.30am.

He was taken to the Mater Hospital, but died a short time later.

Fassaugh Avenue was closed from Killala Road to Dunmanus Road in both directions for most of the day however the closure has now been lifted.

The scene is sealed off and the Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

A post mortem is due to be carried out later.

Two people have been arrested by gardaí in connection with the death.

A man, 23, was arrested on Tuesday morning and is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Finglas Garda Station.

A second man, 25, was arrested in the afternoon. He is currently detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Blanchardstown Garda Station.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone to come forward that may have seen anything unusual or suspicious on Fassaugh Avenue, near the shops between 6am and 8am on Tuesday.

Detectives particularly wish to speak to a taxi driver who dropped off a number of people near the Centra shop on Fassaugh Avenue early on Tuesday morning.

"We would also like to speak to a number of people who stopped to render assistance to the deceased this morning," the police statement said.

An incident room has been set up at Cabra Garda Station.
