A man has been arrested in connection with a one vehicle crash in Coleraine, Co Derry which left an elderly pedestrian with head injuries.

The injured man, who is in his 80s, was struck by a car on Railway Road on Thursday shortly before 2.10pm.

He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment to head injuries and his condition is described as stable.

A 33-year-old was detained and questioned over dangerous driving and later, released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Police are appealing to anyone who was in the Railway Road area of the town who witnessed the incident to contact Coleraine PSNI Station on 0845 600 8000.
