The victim was with another boy at the Round O Jetty area in Co Fermanagh shortly before midnight, when he was approached and stabbed twice in the abdomen.

He was taken to hospital for treatment to stab wounds which are not life-threatening.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said a male youth was arrested in the Enniskillen area on Monday afternoon and remains in police custody.

The detective sergeant said: "A 15-year-old male has been arrested following a report of an assault at the Round O, Enniskillen area on Sunday 24 August."

UUP Fermanagh South Tyrone MLA, Tom Elliott has expressed his condemnation over the assault in the popular tourist area.

"It is a disturbing turn of events, that such attacks are taking place in public parks," he said.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have information about this attack to contact the police, so the perpetrator can be brought to justice.

"My thoughts are with the young boy who was attacked, and I wish him a speedy recovery. The people of Enniskillen should not have to deal with cowardly attacks like this."
