The fire broke out at around 7.30am in a bedroom of the flat in the Culdee Street area of the city on Thursday.

There was no one in the property at the time, however, five other residents in the complex had to leave their home during the fire fighting operation.

They were alerted to the fire by smoke alarms, the fire service told UTV.

A spokeswoman for the Northern Ireland Fire Service said the blaze was started deliberately and the scene has been handed over to the police.
