A Northern Ireland Ambulance spokesperson said that the ambulance, which was travelling with someone who had been involved in a road crash, was struck by a car which then sped off from the scene.

Significant damage was caused to the NIAS vehicle and crew members, who were not seriously injured, are being assessed at Daisy Hill Hospital.

The five people involved in the initial two-vehicle collision did not receive any serious injuries.

The NIAS appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact PSNI with any information they have.
