The remains of what are believed to be two stolen ATMs have been recovered by police who carried out searches of woodland near Rosslea, Co Fermanagh.

The machines are thought to have been stolen in Co Monaghan on Saturday morning.

A lorry and a burnt out car spotted by local people at Carnmore Road on Saturday afternoon have also been taken away for further examination.

The vehicles are a dark-coloured hatchback and a Volvo sand lorry with a white cab.

Local detectives said they are assisting their counterparts in An Garda Siochana in the investigation.

Anyone who saw the vehicles on the road between Cootehill in Co Monaghan and Rosslea in Co Fermanagh is asked to contact the PSNI in Enniskillen or Gardai at Bailiboro.

The find came as the creation of a dedicated group to counter ATM thefts was announced by the Security Minister.

Paul Goggins met on Tuesday with the PSNI, Policing Board and senior representatives from the banking sector in a bid to counter the growth in cash machine attacks.

The discussion considered the use of new technologies to address the risk of further attacks.

After the meeting, Mr Goggins said: "Local businesses are suffering and communities are being left without vital amenities in the run up to Christmas."

"Although it would be inappropriate to publicise it, no-one should be in any doubt that there is a lot of work going on to catch those responsible and to put in place measures to prevent further attacks."
