The properties were searched by the PSNI's Organised Crime Branch on Wednesday.

Cannabis worth £500k and other drugs paraphernalia were found and seized at a house on Rugby Avenue, in the Holyland area.

At the second property, on Haypark Avenue, just off the Ormeau Road, herbal cannabis worth £400k was also seized along with drugs paraphernalia.

Detective Chief Inspector Catherine Montgomery, from Organised Crime Branch, said: "This significant seizure further reinforces our determination to remove controlled drugs from the streets of Northern Ireland.

"The potential harm to the public caused by drugs is an issue that the PSNI take seriously. We will continue to work in conjunction with partner agencies to ensure the closure of all supply routes and to bring to justice those involved in trafficking drugs at all levels.

"If you see or know anyone who is dealing drugs in your local area then contact your local police on 0845 600 8000 or alternatively you can contact the independent charity crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

If the police take the potential harm by drugs seriously then they would be more worried about alcohol tobacco sugar and caffine .All have killed more people than cannabis.Political policing at its worst. If cannabis is so harmful why did the government allow GW Pharmaceuticals to grow canabis and produce Sativex. Why should I be forced to buy pain killing medication at inflated prices for something I can grow in my garden.

Propaganda! Why not do the job right and wait on the criminals? I always notice with , not all, these big captures, never a head with them. Why? Leave it to the imagination..... If there were no drugs there would be a lot of cops out of jobs

Waste of time. The sooner cannabis is legalised and taxed the better. Go and catch some real criminals.

"The potential harm to the public caused by drugs" its marijuana. Get real folks. Stop criminalising a plant and people who do no harm. Police should spend their time sorting out the real problems with society.
