The independent insurance broker is also recruiting a further 20 employees to support its ongoing expansion and to coincide with its 35th year of business.

By the end of August, the firm hopes to employ just over 300 people.

The Co Down based company now has a 21% share of the car insurance market.

Chairman Leslie Hughes, who created Hughes Insurance from his back bedroom in 1977, said:

"Last year we put the infrastructure in place to support our projected growth - this year we are delivering against it. We are targeting a 25% market share - meaning we aim to insure one in four drivers in Northern Ireland.

"The company has come a long way in the past 35 years - but our ethos has never changed, we still focus on combining the most competitive and comprehensive car insurance available in Northern Ireland with the best customer service."
