Rioters in the Ardoyne area
Almost 40 people have been arrested in connection with the serious rioting in the Ardoyne area on the Twelfth.

The Chief Constable Matt Baggott briefed the Policing Board on Tuesday about the trouble, in which several police officers were injured.

Acting Chairman of the Board, Brian Rea, said Board members had "unanimously" supported the police operation on the night.

"Having questioned the Chief Constable on the police operation put in place to deal with the serious disorder, Board Members were unanimous in their support of the tactics the police used," Mr Rea said.

"Members are also concerned that children as young as eight were involved in the rioting in Ardoyne and are fully supportive of measures the PSNI, alongside Social Services, plan to put in place to tackle this serious problem," he added.

During the serious disorder on 12 July, police were attacked with blast bombs and petrol bombs during several hours of rioting, which was blamed on dissident republicans.

Gary, you are a personification of everything that is wrong with this country. Your bitterness is shameful. I'll hazard a guess that you can't see that I'm not stating that because you're a Republican. And on another point what's this ridiculous "peaceful protest" excuse? If I steal £20 from a shop peacefully, that doesn't make it legal. They were moved because they were blocking a road, not because of what they're protesting for. Now come on, cry some more about how one-sided the RUC is, but no-one's listening to you. People will write your comment off as just another iritating sectarian whine. WE'RE right, THEY'RE wrong. Yawn.

Stuart are you seriously advocating sterilization? I recall a well known German dictator had the same beliefs in the 1930's.

Veritas Where is your mentality? These were not children and they can only be labeled as scum. They have no concern about the area, the country or indeed the picture displayed to the rest of the world Now let''s start calling them what they are. Scum!

Gary, you're harbouring a lot of hate for a job you know nothing about. I've stood side by side with both religions in the same uniform, taking petrol bombs from both sides of the divide. Maybe if people like you did more help than hate, our society could continue to move forward. The cost to police that parade, police the rioting and in damage to the area amounts to millions. Millions that could be better spent elsewhere, but then it always comes down to them and us, regardless of cost, both financial and to the community. Personally, i'd have filled the water canon with luminous dye, and let the community and employers see clearly who and where the trouble makers came from. Wise up and stop looking backwards into history for justification. Leave that behind and understand that actions in the present and future will dictate how we live.

Being one of those who has been bricked, bottled and petrol bombed, i'm amazed at some of the idiotic comments on here. Some of you may hate what i do for a living but most if not all will turn to I and my colleagues for help. When some piece of dirt launches a petrol bomb towards me i don't think of their upbringing, i think is tonight the night i go home burnt or in a box. In my opinion I'm fighting with one hand behind my back and two legs chopped off. The courts don't do enough and our political situation means we take the abuse on the chin. Personally every person found guilty should get a custodial sentence. I don't care about the politics of which side is right and which is wrong. What i do care about is about getting home in one piece and helping the decent people on all parts of the community get on with daily life without fear.

The parades arent the cause of the trouble. It's peoples biggotted belief that causes it. No parades wont stop the trouble.

Can someone please tell me is this the RUC or the PSNI, it says on their vans it is the PSNI, But it reminds me of the RUC, Beating innocent Catholics, using Water cannons and force agaisn't peaceful proestors, the RUC used those tactics in 1969, Burntollet, Belfast to Derry march, and the Coalisland march, The PSNI Wanted to get as many Catholics as possible offended, the minority Protestant in Ardoyne got what they wanted. March could have been re-routed, but that isn't good enough for the Parades commision, Protestant people and the RUC. Oh the good old British Media, UTV? Ulster? 9 Counties in Ulster not 6! Also, I watched news coverage, that makes me bad, British media twisting the words so the RUC get more support, saying Republicans attacked them first, not saying thousands of people turned out, NEVER RIOTED OR STARTED ANY VIOLENCE UNTIL THE PEACEFUL MARCHERS WERE VIOLENTLY REMOVED FROM THE ROAD. "End Sectarianism, give bigotry the red card" Bla Bla Bla, what's the point? UTV are always going to be bigoted, Orange order will be there to offend and the RUC will do nothing about it. Gerry, hurry up and unite this country.
