50,000 euro seized at Belfast airport
Over €50,000 has been seized from a Co Armagh man as he was about to board a flight at Belfast International Airport on Monday.

The man, who was about to travel to Barcelonam was arrested by UK Borders Agency officers on suspicion of being involved in money laundering.

After questioning, he was released on bail to report to Antrim PSNI Station in December.

An application to detain the cash for further investigation was approved un-opposed at Antrim Magistrates Court.

"Cash is seized if there are reasonable grounds to suspect it is the proceeds of, or is intended for use in, illegal activities", Maggie Eyden, Assistant Director for UK Border Agency in Northern Ireland explained.

"The Proceeds of Crime Act was specifically designed to take the profit out of crime, making it harder for money to be laundered and depriving criminals of their illicit wealth. It is a vital element of our criminal investigation strategy."
