Simon Cowell announced this week that he is leaving American Idol to launch The X Factor in the US, sparking reports that this may affect the UK version of the singing talent show.
But an ITV spokesman said: "We are absolutely planning for The X Factor to return this autumn and next."
There had also been speculation that the UK X Factor may be moved to air in the summer as Fox is apparently hoping to air the US version of the show in the autumn, which could cause a scheduling conflict for creator Cowell, who is on the judging panel for both.
X Factor presenter Dermot O'Leary and judge Cheryl Cole are also being linked to the US show.
But an ITV insider said: "We would be highly unlikely to air one of our major shows during the summer.
"Simon Cowell is committed to the show on ITV. The announcement that he was taking The X Factor to America came as no surprise to us."
Cowell has reportedly signed a deal worth more than £12m with ITV to remain on The X Factor and his other show Britain's Got Talent until at least 2012.
