X Factor hopefuls can belt out auditions from their own homes for the first time in the show's history.
This year's hopefuls can upload a video showcasing their singing skills by following online instructions.
Contestants for the talent show can already submit their initial applications by phone, post or online, and the video audition is seen by organisers as an extra way of standing out from the crowd ahead of the nationwide tour.
Judge Simon Cowell said: "This is an obvious step forward for us and we will ensure that every clip is watched carefully and presents another opportunity for people to enter The X Factor."
The video process is optional and applicants are still being encouraged by the show to apply without one.
Hopefuls can create a video of their singing performances by following the instructions on the X Factor official website.
Those who have already applied can still submit a video.
