Whitney Houston's death has been voted the most shocking moment of 2012 so far.

The tragedy in February beat Kristen Stewart cheating on her Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson with moviemaker Rupert Sanders into second place in the poll, carried out by US magazine Parade and Yahoo's gossip website OMG.

Tom Cruise's split from Katie Holmes in June comes third, and the top five is rounded out by Jersey Shore reality star Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi's pregnancy and Demi Moore's stint in a rehabilitation clinic.

Houston drowned in the bath tub at her suite at the Beverly Hilton hotel.
