The format change will mean the act with the lowest amount of votes after 10 minutes of lines being opened during the Saturday show will be put into a sing-off with another act the following Sunday.
After the flash vote, voting lines for the remaining contestants will then reopen until Sunday night's show where the second contestant to face the sing off will be revealed.
The X Factor live performance shows start on UTV from Saturday 12 October.
The first week's theme will see the final 12 contestants perform a classic track from the 80s.
This year's panel - Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne, Gary Barlow and Nicole Scherzinger - will cast their eyes over the finalists in a mammoth 135-minute-long programme.
Before the live shows begin, viewers can see who makes it through to the final stage of the competition when the hopefuls take on Judges' Houses this weekend.
The groups category headed to New York to sing for Gary Barlow and his sidekick Olly Murs, while the over 25s headed out to meet Sharon Osbourne - accompanied by Robbie Williams - at her home in Los Angeles.
The boys flew out to Saint-Tropez to perform for Louis Walsh - who was joined by former All Saints member Nicole Appleton, Westlife's Shane Filan and Sinitta.
And finally, Nicole Scherzinger's girls headed to Antigua, where they met soul star Mary J Blige.
The X Factor is on UTV from 8pm on Saturday and 7.10pm on Sunday.
