Cher, Billy Ray Cyrus and Mary J Blige are among the stars celebrating Barack Obama's re-election as US President.

US stars celebrate Obama's re-election

The incumbent leader went head-to-head with Republican rival Mitt Romney at the polls on Tuesday - and, after landing an impressive majority, Obama is heading back to the White House for another four years.

His celebrity supporters flocked to Twitter to voice their delight after the result, with Cher gushing: "I'm so happy! This is one of the great nites (sic) of my life !!!! Tears r streaming down my face! women we have a champion!!!"

TV presenter Ricki Lake stated: "Breathe. Sigh. Relief."

Zachary Quinto, who manned the phones for Obama in Chicago, Illinois on Tuesday, told his followers: "Never been more fired up in my adult life!!!!!!!"

Singer Billy Ray Cyrus stated: "Congratulations Mr President! Congratulations America ... the process worked ... and freedom rings."

Nicole Richie tweeted: "We did it America!!!!!" and Olivia Munn declared: "Four More Years!!!! Barack Obama is our 43rd AND 44th PRESIDENT!!!!"

Elizabeth Banks was ready to toast Obama, telling her fans: "Wow, great day! Open the champers! Whoo hoo ... congrats Barack Obama!!" and Mandy Moore gushed: "Proud of my country and our President."

Katy Perry, who staged several free concerts to rally support for Obama in recent weeks, posted: "DONE AND DUSTED!!! The people have the power! Proud to stand by you for 4 more years."

La Toya Jackson tweeted: "Congratulations!!!! To our President!!!! 4 more years!!! The best man won!!!" and rapper will.i.am added: "Thank you america ... we are still on our path ... All that travel, hard work and campaigning was worth it ... and now its time to work even harder ..."

Ricky Gervais, Paris Jackson, Amber Riley, Ashley Judd, Rob Lowe and Zoe Saldana also took to the social networking site to heap praise on Obama and celebrate his victory after learning the Democrat had won re-election.
