NI viewers watched as Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini returned to the judging panel, alongside Louis Walsh and former Spice Girls star Mel B, in hopes of finding the next big UK music act.
Michael Wilson, Managing Director, UTV said: "Our audience has been hotly awaiting the return of X Factor - with an impressive 55% of those watching TV on Saturday night watching X Factor representing a massive 361,000 viewers here.
"Our average audience share of 49% was also well ahead of the ITV networks average share of 42%, and three times that of any other channel on Saturday night."
Throughout the UK, The X Factor enjoyed a peak audience of 10.6 million, beating last year's launch audience by 300,000 viewers.
Among those auditioning during the opening show of the 11th series was Irish hopeful Ben Quinlan who took the opportunity to serenade Cheryl with his rendition of Shane Ward's That's My Goal.
The judges were also left impressed with returning hopeful Amy Connelly who was last seen on the programme in 2008 when she made it as far as Cheryl's Judges' House.
The X Factor returns to UTV on Saturday and Sunday from 8pm.
