Star Gillian Anderson and Co Down actor Jamie Dornan will return as DSI Stella Gibson and serial killer Paul Spector in the BBC and RTÉ drama.

Filming for the hit series was due to begin in the city at the start of January, but work commitments of the leading actors meant shooting had to be pushed back until the end of February.

Anderson is currently working on the NBC drama Hannibal, while Dornan is filming the screen adaptation of the hugely successful Fifty Shades of Grey novel.

The Holywood man plays the lead role of billionaire Christian Grey.

It is understood the second series of The Fall will include six episodes and will see the return of supporting actors Bronagh Waugh, Emmett Scanlan, Gerard McCarthy, Niamh McGrady and Archie Panjabi.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Scanlan admitted: "Without giving anything away, (series two) sounds fantastic.

"There's a high expectation now after the huge success of the first season, but I'm sure it's one that everyone is relishing."
