Last year six UK charities - Age UK, Barnardo's, BeatBullying, British Heart Foundation, CLIC Sargent and Help the Hospices - shared over £5m raised during the annual fundraiser.

The 2013 appeal saw a host of famous faces, including Cheryl Cole, Robbie Williams, Gary Barlow and the cast of Coronation Street and Emmerdale, help raise funds for the charities which offer practical help to those in need across the UK.

Since launching in 2011, Text Santa has raised over £15m and will return to UTV in December for the 2014 appeal.

Applications for this year's fundraiser will open at midday on Monday 24 February.

The application period will be open for two weeks. Full details, including eligibility criteria, are available at www.textsanta.co.uk.

Donations are passed to the selected charities as soon as Text Santa receives them.

Is this the general text santa application (ITV) or is there a new Northern Ireland angle?
