The former Doctor Who star, who also hosted the event, was handed the honour for his role in Kafka: The Musical by Murray Gold, seeing off competition from the likes of Damian Lewis.

Other stars to pick up awards included Rosie Cavaliero, who was named Best Actress for Lost Property: A Telegram from the Queen, while Lost Property: The Year My Mother Went Missing was named Best Audio Drama.

Andrew Scott won the Best Supporting Actor/actress prize for his voice work in Referee.
