Beloved magician Paul Daniels has accidentally cut off two of his fingers while using a saw at his home in Berkshire, England.

The TV trickster, who is famous for appearing to saw women in half as part of his stage routine, was using the tool to create props for his act on New Year's Day when his hand slipped, causing him to slice off his index finger and the top of his ring finger.

The magician tells Daily Mirror newspaper: "My head was full of pain (at) the possible end of the magic."

Daniels drove himself to a nearby hospital and has since undergone surgery to reattach his fingers.

He adds to the BBC: "It's all healing up now and it's coming along really well; the surgeon's really pleased, the sensation's there, it's all bending. I will have to adapt when I get all the bandages off for the handling of some of the stuff I do."
