In a joint venture with media executives Kieran Doherty and Matt Worthy, the company, Stellify Media, will be based in Belfast and is SPT's first move into production in Northern Ireland.
The company will be producing entertainment programmes for UK-based broadcasters, as well as collaborating with STP's US and international production companies.
Announcing the launch, Kieran Doherty said: "We are delighted to be launching our own independent production company at a time when the production industry in Northern Ireland is thriving and producing some of the most popular shows on TV.
"With SPT's backing we will have access to a wealth of expertise, resources and opportunity across its global network of production companies allowing us to focus both on international opportunities as well as domestic commissions."
Wayne Garvie, Chief Creative Officer, International Production at SPT, added: "Kieran and Matt are the rising stars of a new generation of Irish creatives.
"They have proven success in developing popular entertainment and Stellify Media will be a marvellous addition to our family.

Kieran Doherty and Matt Worthy have previously developed a number of original entertainment series and game shows including the magic and mentalism series David Meade: Make Believe.
With the launch of Stellify Media, Sony Pictures Television's international production business now comprises of 18 companies in 12 countries.
