TV bosses have confirmed Sex And The City is heading back to the small screen in the form of a prequel.

Long-running rumours have suggested the popular show, which spawned two movies, would be rebooted and it has now been revealed executives at America's CW network are working on a spin-off based on a novel written by creator Candice Bushnell.

They have ordered a pilot episode based on The Carrie Diaries, which focus on Sarah Jessica Parker's character Carrie Bradshaw while she is at high school.

The team behind Gossip Girl, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, have signed on as executive producers, according to Tvline.com.
