Flyby ahead of Newcastle flight festival

Two chipmunk airplanes have been flying in the Newcastle sky ahead of this year's Festival of Flight in the Co Down town.

This year's event will see the return of the popular Red Arrows and organiser Jeff Salter says the show has expanded significantly since its creation."We have actually managed to grow the display over the last five years from a simple Red Arrows display at the beginning to a two-hour air display," he told UTV.Mr Salter said the Red Arrows are always received well and the team enjoy coming to the festival."They like this venue, they like a venue which is challenging - as you can see from that great lump of rock over my shoulder, that is the challenge of displaying round here is to fly around a 3,000 ft mountain," he added. It won't all be about keeping your eyes on the skies as visitors will also have the chance to get up close to replica planes. The main air show is due to take place on Saturday 9 August.
