Russell Brand is to return to the radio six months after he left the BBC following the obscene phone messages scandal.

The comedian will host a two-hour football special on talkSPORT on Sunday evening with Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher.

The 33-year-old quit his Radio 2 show in October after he and Jonathan Ross left a series of lewd messages on the actor Andrew Sachs' answering machine.

The two presenters said Brand had slept with the Fawlty Towers actor's granddaughter, Georgina Baillie, 23, and joked that Sachs might kill himself.

Two senior Radio 2 executives also resigned in the wake of the scandal, while Ross was suspended without pay for 12 weeks.

TalkSPORT said listeners could expect "a heavy dose of cutting-edge comedy, controversial commentary and the odd eye-opening anecdote" in the show, which will be broadcast at 9pm on Sunday.

The programme has been billed as a one-off, but it is understood that it may become a regular feature if it is a success.

Moz Dee, talkSPORT programme director, said: "TalkSPORT welcomes Russell back to radio. He's a unique talent who understands the medium brilliantly, and together with Noel Gallagher, it'll be a must listen.

"Both are proper football fans who just happen to be two of the most creative minds in popular culture."

On Tuesday, Brand twittered: "Tomorrow Cardiff, Friday o2. Sunday talksport radio show with Noely Noely G - this shall be a week of gentle wonder and reckless kissing."
