The Former Pussycat Doll has featured on the show since 2012, but as Simon Cowell announced he will once again take up his position as head judge, it is thought Scherzinger will leave to focus on her music career.
Fellow panelist Gary Barlow announced during the last series that he would not be returning, as did the longest serving judge Louis Walsh.
However Walsh has indicated he might have had second thoughts.
There has been wide speculation that former Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole could also be making a return, with Cowell confirming this week that he has met with the singer.
Cowell announced last week he was returning for the next series of the show later this year.
The music mogul said he was "absolutely thrilled to be returning".
The X Factor returns to UTV this autumn.
