British royal Prince Harry was the guest of honour at an event in Washington DC on Monday as he was rewarded for his work with war veterans.

Prince Harry honoured in Washington

Prince Harry, who qualified as a front line Apache helicopter pilot in February, made his first ever visit to the US capital to accept the Atlantic Council's 2012 Distinguished Humanitarian Leadership Award.

As he was handed the honour at a special dinner, he said: "Generally, I obviously don't feel that I've done nearly enough to deserve (this award). The very least we owe them (veterans) is to make sure that they and their brave families have everything they need through the darkest days - and, in time, regain the hope and confidence to flourish again."
