Much-loved broadcaster Johnny Hero will be joining U105 as Drive Time presenter in November, the station has announced.

Johnny will be replacing George Jones from 1 November.

Johnny, already a hugely popular presenter on local radio, said: "The time is right in my career to make the move up to U105. I am really looking forward to building a rapport with the U105 listeners, with my usual celebrity interviews, daily quizzes and the very best music. Hopefully all of my old friends will make the switch with me to my new show!"

"I am a huge fan of U105's music and presenters and I'm delighted to have been afforded this opportunity to take over from George who has done a great job with the Drive Time show."

Maurice Jay, Programme Controller for U105, said: "It is a coup for U105 to attract Johnny Hero. Johnny is a hugely popular local presenter, with over 20 years broadcasting experience and I'm sure the U105 fans will love his style."

George Jones will continue to entertain his many fans on U105 with a brand new programme on Sunday evenings from 6pm. The new show will allow George to continue with his touring commitments with Clubsound.

Johnny started with Downtown Radio in 1990 and quickly moved to the mid-morning slot where he stayed for 14 years and provided the station's highest listening figures.

In recent times he has been presenting the Drivetime Show.

The self-confessed quiz maniac has also appeared on several TV shows including Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and Goldenballs.

Johnny Hero will present U105 Drive on 105.8FM, Monday to Friday 3pm - 7pm, from Monday 1 November.
