Chris Butler, who wrote and co-directed the movie, is visiting the city to help launch the annual Cinemagic Festival aimed at youngsters under the age of 12.

"I wish there was something like Cinemagic when I started," he told UTV.

"But I knew at a really early age that I wanted to get into it, so I think I was six years old when I told my mum I wanted to be a storyboard artist in animation.

"And I think with that in mind, I just kept going."

A lot of the people that I know in the industry, they all knew at a very young age.

The young pupils from Carr's Glen Primary School were full of questions for the man who has also worked on films like Coraline and Corpse Bride.

"They had just watched Coraline and one of them kind of put me on the spot and asked me to draw some storyboards, which I haven't done in several years," Chris said.

"So it was kind of cool to stand there in front of 60 school kids, drawing and having them watch. They liked it."

The Cinemagic programme - featuring a host of film screenings and workshops - runs from 5-19 October, with a second programme aimed at young people aged 12-25 to follow in November.
