One of the most well known opera experiences, Tosca features Martina Serafin as the tragic Tosca and Aleksandrs Antonenko as her lover Cavaradossi, with Scott Hendricks as the evil Baron Scarpia who plots their destruction.

The event began at 7.30pm and was hosted by broadcaster Alan Titchmarsh.

Belfast was one of a number of locations across the UK who took part in the live screening, others included Trafalgar Square and Canary Wharf in London, Aberdeen, Cardiff and Manchester.

Admission was on a first-come-first-served basis and the grounds quickly filled up with people keen to experience the unique event.
