Former X Factor contestants and now global superstars One Direction have rated their favourites in this year's competition after returning to the show.

Fresh from a massive tour of America, the boys returned to where it all began for them to perform new single 'Little Things' and also gave their opinion on this year's talent with Xtra Factor presenters Caroline Flack and Olly Murs.

Louis' favourites are James Arthur and Ella, but particularly James, who he rates as a "great raw talent".

"You just believe every word that he sings, he's pretty slick," he said.

The band were also supportive of flamboyant contender Rylan.

"The show needs someone like that," Louis added.

"You definitely can't watch his performance with a frown on your face. He's great fun and he's a really nice guy."

And when asked who they would pick to support them on tour, they said they would pick James or Rylan to support them out of all the contestants.

"James might be a bit cool for us," Louis explained.

We love Rylan!

The hot boy band also offered some words of wisdom on how to make the most of their X Factor experience.

Louis advised the remaining contestants: "Enjoy it while it lasts because it goes by so quick."

"Don't take anything that's like, in the press, written about you..don't take it too seriously," Zayn said.

But despite their support for the boys in the competition, they predicted Ella as the hopeful who would win the competition.

The boys came third in the competition in 2010 behind Rebecca Ferguson and winner Matt Cardle and have gone on to achieve number one chart places in 15 countries with their debut album 'Up All Night' and are the first UK group to have a debut album go to number one in the American charts.

The band were enjoying their time back on the show before they start a gruelling eight month tour.

"It feels like when you've left school and then you come back, you see all the same faces," Louis said.

Zayn said they are "humbled and flattered" by their success in the US.

"We didn't really expect to be anything outside of the UK, we just expected to do the UK kinda thing and it just went crazy for us and now we're like known in America. And to think that people like, know our music out there is crazy," he said.

"It's strange there's some countries I've never been to and people there know everything about you. That's like the strangest thing for me," Liam said.

Liam said that one of the strangest places they have been recognised was while surfing in Australia.

He said: "Channel Nine news team were just flying across us while we were out there surfing, watching us fall everywhere, so that was good!"
