The debut song which gave boyband One Direction their first number one has become a YouTube sensation, after being given a revamp by five guys and their unorthodox way of playing a piano.

The Piano Guys shot to fame by posting their take on popular songs online and have already clocked up well over three million views on their version of What Makes You Beautiful in less than a week.

The video shows the team all take to the same piano to play the catchy tune, but they don't settle for just using the keys.

The exposed strings and even the versatile instrument's polished sides get put to good use to replicate the song using nothing but the piano (and a few little vocals thrown in towards the end).

"We thought about the ramifications of taking on a teenybopper boy band tune as five middle-aged, married guys who are desperately holding on to their hairlines," the Piano Guys said.

"One of us even has a son older than the guys in One Direction, but we love a good challenge! We just acted like kids playing a piano and it totally worked!"

And thousands of people seem to agree, having left comments praising the creative spin on guys have put on the familiar tune.
