Simon Cowell has said that this year's X Factor contestants are not "big belters" - but they will receive plenty of support.

Cowell was speaking at an event in London in which his younger brother Nicholas helped launch an online backup service called Livedrive.

Cowell was asked if this year's crop were as good as in previous years. He said: "I've got to put them in the studio yet. I'm happy with them but they're different.

"They're not like these big belting artists."

He added: "They're going to get a lot of support whatever happens."

Cowell said he had not made his mind up yet about the winner's single.

He was also asked about the sex appeal of fellow judge Cheryl Cole.

He said: "You can't not fancy her," and conceded that he probably fancied her more than she fancied him.
