The Schindler's List star, who hit the milestone on Thursday, recently revealed he had banned his family from throwing a surprise bash as he couldn't stand celebrating his old age.
He said: "I hate it. I'm not going to celebrate it. What am I going to do? Go to a strip club or something like that? I can't do it. My sons were saying the other day, 'Dad, we're going to throw you a big party for your birthday'. I said: 'No, we're not!'"
However, Neeson rounded up 40 of his nearest and dearest at Manhattan's Waverly Inn on his big day to mark the occasion with a dinner, according to the New York Post's gossip column Page Six.
