Speaking at the annual Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People, Lord Fellowes said a host of film and television professionals would be involved - including Liam Neeson and Pierce Brosnan.

The Oscar-winning screenwriter and Downton Abbey creator will help to develop the script.

The professional filmmakers will mentor young people throughout the film production process, giving insights to the world of cinema and sharing their experience to help develop young people's skills.

UTV, the BBC and Panavision will work in partnership with Cinemagic to help produce and premiere the film, which will be called A Christmas Star.

Cinemagic Chief Executive, Joan Burney Keatings said: "Our Christmas feature film, a first for Northern Ireland, will bring young people from different cultural backgrounds together."

Lord Fellowes praised Cinemagic's work, saying: "The whole central drive of Cinemagic is bringing different elements together and forging them into one unit so they can take on these tasks.

"Some may go on in the industry, they may find that this is their calling, but that doesn't matter. What's important is that they'll all be working together on a project that interests them."

The call-out for young people to participate in the film production will be announced in May and filming will take place in October 2014.

Meanwhile, in an interview with UTV's Marc Mallett, Lord Fellowes talked about what's next for his hit period drama Downton Abbey - check out our video to see what he had to say.
