NI's Innova through to BGT live shows

The Innova Irish Dance Company have made it through to the live semi-finals of Britain's Got Talent, following tense deliberations from the judges.

The Portstewart-based group wowed the panel during the Belfast auditions in January with their "unique twist" on classic Irish Dancing, prompting Simon Cowell to hail them as the reason he wanted to come to the city. The 15-strong act will now compete against 44 other hopefuls for the chance to be crowned the winners of Britain's Got Talent 2014, which includes a £250,000 cash prize and a spot at this year's Royal Variety Show.Unfortunately Coleraine singer John James Glass did not receive good news as the judges decided not to put him through to the next stage of the competition.John James performed a rendition of Any Dream Will Do for the panel, and while David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon were impressed with his performance, Simon was not. This year each judge, plus Ant & Dec, were given the opportunity to put one act straight through to the live shows by pressing the golden buzzer after their audition.Amanda sent through salsa dancing granny Paddy and her partner Nico, Alesha backed three-piece girl band REAformed, David chose singer Christian Spidon, while Simon championed young duo Bars & Melody.During the final round of auditions Ant & Dec decided to hit the golden buzzer for comedian Toju Okorodudu. The 40-year-old impressed the judges with a comedy routine which included impersonations of Cilla Black and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Geordie duo arrived on stage following the performance and immediately pressed the golden buzzer for the shocked hopeful."That really moved me. Ant and Dec, thank you so much boys!" said Alesha. There's no one out there that I can think of right now who's like that.David Walliams on Toju OkoroduduAlso wowing the panel was 12-year-old singer Ellis James Chick, who performed a rendition of You Make Me Feel So Young.Alesha told him: "That song choice was genius and I've never been so relaxed watching someone so young perform. That was brilliant."Simon praised the young singer's confidence, but warned him of picking up the "bad habits" of pub singer, telling him: "You have to be cooler than that."Ellis will perform during this year's semi-finals.Singing couple Kieran and Sarah also had to fight for Simon's approval after they performed a duet of Love Changes Everything. With David having to physically restrain Simon from stopping the audition as he didn't like the song choice, he told them: "This is a tricky one guys - I do like your personalities a lot, you're really funny, really sweet but we've had better singers. After Sarah pledged to work on their vocals, Simon said: "I feel that the audience will really like but that doesn't mean that we've necessarily found a star. You can sing, but I think you need a lot of work."Kieran and Sarah eventually got four yes votes and were also put through to the live shows.Catch the Britain's Got Talent live semi-finals on UTV from Monday 26 May at 7.30pm.Me & @SimonCowell wrestling = HOT #BGT— David Walliams (@davidwalliams) May 25, 2014The Britain's Got Talent semi-finalists 2014:The Addict InitiativeAllan Turner-WardAndrew DerbyshireBailey McConnellBars and MelodyBold DogsBrian ChanCartelChristian SpridonCollabroCountry ViveCrazy RougeDarcy OakeEd DrewettEllis ChickEva IglesiasHenrietta AdewoloInnova Irish Dance Co.Jack PackJenson ZhuJames SmithJodi BirdJon CleggKings & QueensKitty & RosieKeiran & SarahKieran LaiKony PuppetsLa Voix & the London Big Gay BandLauren and TerrellLettice RowbothamLight BalanceLucy KayPaddy & NicoPeat Loaf and ElaineREAformedRicky KSam JonesTojuYanis Marshall, Arnaud and Mehdi
