Presenters were anxiously awaiting the publication of the latest industry figures, which were released by RAJAR on Thursday morning, and the whole team is thrilled by the results.
"I'm delighted that we have grown the audience year on year, in what is always a difficult quarter for local radio," U105's station manager, Peter McVerry, said.
"Our investment in personalities, quality content and first class music are hitting the right note with existing and new listeners."
The official figures for the June-December 2011 period show that U105 has continued to thrive since its launch nearly six years ago, now achieving its biggest ever market share (13.7%) and highest ever number of listening hours.
The station now reaches 211,000 people - up 51% year on year.
"From a standing start in 2005, we now have more than twice the market share of Downtown Radio in our broadcast area and three times the listening hours and market share of Citybeat* in our area - which is a tremendous achievement for the team here," Peter added.
"We look forward to building on this success in 2012 and continuing to deliver for our listeners, sponsors and advertisers."
