Two parents who subjected their six children to a catalogue of abuse have been jailed after British actress Michelle Collins gave evidence against them.

Michelle Collins helps jail abuse couple

Collins, who has enjoyed long-running roles in hit UK soap operas EastEnders and Coronation Street, took to the witness stand at a court in London during the couple's trial.

She revealed she had met the abused children at a church event and felt so sorry for them, she took them on a trip to the cinema.

The parents, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denied abusing their kids and alleged Collins was part of a conspiracy to take the children into care.

However, they were found guilty and jailed for seven years each by a judge, who praised Collins for the "generosity" she has shown towards the young victims.

Sentencing the couple at Wood Green Crown Court in north London on Tuesday, Judge James Patrick told them: "You alleged a conspiracy involving a well-known actress, who had done nothing but show your family generosity and kindness."
