The former Westlife star began his trek on Wednesday, and will travel across the country on the Indian Pacific rail service's Outback Christmas train to sing for fans in remote locations.

McFadden will stage shows throughout the journey, which is set to end on Saturday.

In a post on his Twitter page, McFadden writes: "Leaving to travel across Australia today on a train. Sydney to Perth. Playing gigs at stops along the way. IP (Indian Pacific) Outback Christmas."
