Songwriter Lucy Spraggan, who wowed the X Factor judges with her original song about the pitfalls of partying, has shot into the iTunes Top 10 overnight.

The 20-year-old from Sheffield sailed through to bootcamp after nervously taking to the stage during auditions in Manchester to perform 'Last Night' with her guitar.

It is the first time a contestant's original material has registered on the rankings whilst still in the competition.

'Last Night' from her album Top Room at the Zoo, which she released independently last year, featured among the top songs and top albums in the UK less than 24 hours after the episode aired on TV.

The single and album both became number ones in the singer/songwriter category.

On Saturday night, Louis Walsh predicted the song could top the charts. "Very few people get that reaction", he told the portrait seller as the audience was asking for more. "It's fantastic".

"I loved your song," Gary Barlow told her. "When you listed all those drinks, it's just a regular night out for Tulisa," he joked.

Tulisa said she "really loved" the tune - admitting it would be "going straight on (her) iPod", while guest judge Mel B told the songwriter: "You don't know how great you are."

"You've got a little bit of vulnerability about you. You're brilliant. Be confident."
